The Lead: Senior Mary Patalita posted three goals and one assist for four points but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Colgate, 11-8, in Patriot League action on Saturday in the season-finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Patalita scored the first goal of the game, Lindsay West found the back of the net to tie the contest at 1-1.
- Sophomore Keely Connors gave the Crusaders a 2-1 lead, but the Raiders responded with three straight goals to move out to a 4-2 advantage with 13:00 left in the first half.
- A free-position goal by Patalita cut the lead to 4-3, but two consecutive goals by the Raiders made it a 6-3 score with 9:14 remaining.
- Then with 7:08 left, Patalita posted the hat-trick with a free-position goal as the Crusaders trailed 6-4 at the half.
- West netted the first goal of the second half, but the Crusaders responded with a goal each by seniors Maddie Ward and Tess MacKay to cut the lead to 7-6 with 15:21 remaining.
- But two straight goals by the Raiders made it a 9-6 contest with 12:44 left.
- After a goal by Ward, Isabel Kreitler scored for the Raiders.
- With 7:06 remaining, freshman Maggie Moriarty found the back of the net as the Crusaders trailed 10-8.
- Haley O'Hanlon scored the last goal of the game for the 11-8 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Raiders outshot the Crusaders, 23-17.
- Junior Julia Maloney made 12 saves for the Crusaders, while Asil Asfour posted nine for the Raiders.
- Holy Cross secured 12 draw controls, while the Raiders posted nine.
- The Raiders picked up 21 groundballs, while Holy Cross tallied 19.
- Holy Cross went 2-5 on free-position shots, while the Raiders went 2-7.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Patalita has six career hat tricks.
- Senior Anna Johnson posted 56 draw controls this season which are third all-time in program history for a season. Her 29 caused turnovers are fourth. Her 86 career draw controls are ranked ninth all-time, while her 46 caused turnovers are 10th.
- Maloney has 279 career saves are eighth all-time.
