Hitscherich Sets School Record In Long Jump At Patriot League Indoor Championship

THE BASICS:

The Lead: Junior Alanna Hitscherich re-set her school record in the long jump with a distance of 5.84 meters to capture a second-place finish in that event for the Holy Cross women's track and field team at the second day of competition of the Patriot League Indoor Championship on Saturday. The Crusaders finished the day in fifth place.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The team of freshman Allison McArdle, senior co-captain Rachel Sowinski, junior Claire Turner and junior Zoe Matherne captured a third-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay final with a time of 8:54.61. The team's mark met the standards for the ECAC Championship.
  • Three Crusaders qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash with there preliminary marks. Freshman Allie Smiley led the Crusaders with a third-place overall finish, recording a personal record time of 7.77. Just behind her in fourth was sophomore Alexandra Curtin who registered a time of 7.74. Coming in ninth place was sophomore Sarah Friess, who ran for a time of 7.81. All three marks met the New England qualifying standards.
  • Sophomore Isabella DiMare hit a personal record mark in the 200-meter dash, registering a time of 25.26 for a 10th-place overall finish.
  • Hitscherich (8.89) and DiMare (8.97) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Both times were personal record marks, while Hitscherich was just 0.04 seconds away from hitting an ECAC qualifying time.
  • Senior co-captain Jennifer Kimball tied for sixth place in the high jump finals with a height of 1.60 meters.
  • Hitscherich earned eight points for the Crusaders for her mark in the long jump. Her mark also qualified her for the ECAC Indoor Championship. Curtin landed in fifth place for Holy Cross in the long jump with a personal-record distance of 5.68 meters.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

  • Hitscherich was named second team All-Patriot League for her second place finish in the long jump.
