The Lead: Seven different Crusaders posted indoor championship qualifying marks for the Holy Cross women's track and field team at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday, as senior co-captain Rachel Sowinski ran for a personal record time of 2:53.61 in the 1,000-meter run and qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championship, taking 12th place overall out of 57 runners. The meet was hosted by Boston University at its Track & Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Three more Crusaders reached New England qualifying standards in the 1,000-meter run, including junior Claire Turner (18th, 2:58.96), junior Kate Spitler (26th, 3:01.73) and freshman Allison McArdle (31st, 3:03.19).
- Senior co-captain Alexa Eldracher qualified for the New England Championship after landing in fifth place out of 34 finalists in the triple jump for a season-best distance of 11.45 meters. Eldracher later reached a distance of 5.21 meters in the long jump for a 12th of 41 finish.
- Junior Alanna Hitscherich led the Crusaders in the long jump, placing eighth overall with a distance of 5.35 meters. Hitscherich additionally hit a personal record of 9.03 in the 60-meter hurdles, while finishing 12th overall out of 75 hurdlers. Her time qualified her for the New England Championship and is a season-best team mark.
- Junior Hannah Jeter posted the top performance for Holy Cross in the distance race, taking the 28th-place spot in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:45.29, meeting the New England qualifying standards.
- Sophomore Isabella DiMare (7.97) and freshman Allie Smiley (7.98) took the 17th and 18th-place spots, respectively in the 60-meter dash.
- Sophomore Alexandra Curtin came close to hitting a New England qualifying time in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 25.68, just missing the standards by 0.03. Curtin additionally took 18th place out of 41 in the long jump (5.14 meters) and finished 19th out of 66 in the 60-meter dash (7.98).
- Junior Meghan Dietter ran for a season-best time of 58.93 in the 400-meter dash but was 0.20 seconds off from reaching New England qualifying standards. Dietter's time was good for placing her 41st out of 103 runners in the event.
- In the pole vault, junior Jamison Briggs led the way for Holy Cross with a 10th-place finish of 3.35 meters.
