The Lead: The men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the 2016 New England Outdoor Championship on Friday in New Britain, Conn.

HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN):

• In the 400 m dash, sophomore Nicholas Boire (Manchester, N.H.) placed 24th overall, recording a time of 50.48.
• Junior Darrius Lacy (St. Petersburg, Fla.) placed 29th overall in the 100 m dash, crossing the finish line at 11.24.
• Sophomore James Donohue (Bronxville, N.Y.) notched a time of 57.43 in the 400 m hurdles, finishing 20th overall.
• In the 10k race, senior Joe Murphy (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) finished 13th overall, recording a final time of 33:04.30.

HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN):

• Sophomore Tori Zamarra (Manalapan, N.J.) placed 21st in the 100 m hurdles with a time of 15.16, while classmate Alanna Hitscherich (Sussex, N.J.) finished closely behind at 15.24, placing 23rd.
• In the 400 m dash, sophomore Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn.) placed 26th overall with a time of 58.88.
• Senior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) notched a mark of 1.60 m in the high jump to tie for third place.
• Senior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) earned a distance of 39.74 m in the hammer throw, placing her 23rd overall.
• Hitscherich earned a 20th place finish in the long jump, setting a distance of 5.07 m with her second jump of the event.
• In the 5k race, sophomore Annie Sullivan (Southborough, Mass.) earned a time of 17:38.81 to place ninth overall.
