WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior righthanded pitcher George Capen has been named the GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week, for competition from April 18-24. Capen helped lead the Holy Cross baseball team to a perfect 5-0 record in five games last week.
Capen pitched in relief in three of the Crusaders' four games at Bucknell last weekend and did not allow any runs. In the series opener, he threw the final 2-1/3 innings, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts, as Holy Cross won 3-0 in 10 innings. Capen also tossed two shutout innings in Saturday's second game, holding the Bison at bay in the 10th and 11th before the Crusaders eventually won 10-6 in 14 innings. He concluded the weekend by throwing 1-2/3 scoreless innings in Sunday's 5-3 victory. Over the course of the three games, Capen went 2-0 with seven strikeouts, while allowing no runs and just four hits in six innings of work.
On the season, Capen now stands 3-3 with one save, 35 strikeouts and a 2.81 earned run average over 41-2/3 innings pitched. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, he owns a 7-3 record with 84 strikeouts and a 3.77 earned run average.
Holy Cross (22-22 overall, 11-5 Patriot League) returns to action on Wednesday, April 27, when it plays host to Connecticut at 5:05 p.m.
