The Lead: The No. 9 seed Holy Cross women's tennis team defeated No. 8 seed Lafayette, 4-2, in the Patriot League Tournament first round. The is the first ever Patriot League Tournament match victory for the Crusaders. Holy Cross will play No. 1 seed Boston University in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 22 at 8:00 a.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lafayette took a 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. Junior Izzy Bagi (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Morgan McGuire (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) won the No. 3 doubles match, 6-1.
- The Crusaders then won four singles matches to earn the 4-2 victory.
- Freshman Allison Reiling (Mendham, N.J.) won at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 as she fought off two match points.
- Senior Cassy Deng (Eden Prairie, Minn.) won the No. 3 singles match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
- Sophomore Katie Elia (Erie, Pa.) won at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2 and Bagi won the No. 6 singles match by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
BEYOND THE REULTS:
- This win is the first ever Patriot League Tournament match victory for the Crusaders.
