• The Lead: Junior starting pitcher Brendan King (Brookline, Mass.) struckout a personal-best 12 batters in 6.1 innings of work, but the Crusaders fell to South Florida, 4-3, in non-conference baseball action on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• After a scoreless first, Holy Cross gained the lead in the top of the second, as senior Bobby Indeglia (North Kingstown, R.I.) drove in sophomore Cam O'Neill (Lynn, Mass.) on a single up the middle to make the score 1-0.
• The Bulls, however, tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
• After four scoreless innings, South Florida broke the stalemate with a run in the bottom of the eighth to gain a 2-1 lead.
• Holy Cross rallied in the top of the ninth, as senior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) drove in freshmen Travis Cloney (Wall, N.J.) and Kellen McCormick (Rockford, Ill.) on a two-RBI double to give the Crusaders a 3-2 lead.
• South Florida, however, answered in the bottom of the ninth and scored a pair of runs to walk off with a 4-3 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• South Florida's Dylan Lawson picked up the win (2-0), as starter Brandon Lawson tossed eight innings and allowed one run on eight hits, while striking out 11.
• Crusader junior reliever Jon Escobar (Inverness, Ill.) was charged with the loss (0-1), as he allowed one earned run on four hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
• Holy Cross held a 10-9 edge in total hits and a 2-0 advantage in extra-base hits.
• Junior Alex Voitik (Shorewood, Ill.) batted 3-for-4, while O'Neill hit 2-for-3 with one run scored.
