HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither the Crusaders or the Black Knights were able to find the back of the net in the first period as the Crusaders outshot Army West Point 10-6, and went 0-1 on the power play, while Army went 0-2.
- At 1:41 of the second period, sophomore forward Scott Pooley (Grander Ind.) sent a pass across to senior forward Brett Lubanski (Farmington Hills, Mich.) who ripped a slap shot from the top of the left circle, and the rebound bounced out to senior forward Castan Sommer (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who punched it in to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
- At 7:51 of the second period and with Army shorthanded, Maruya stole the puck at his own blue line and moved in on a breakaway, sliding the puck under sophomore goalie Paul Berrafato's (Williamsville, N.Y.) stick side to equalize the score at 1-1.
- The Crusaders outshot Army 16-6 in the second period, going 0-2 on the man-advantage.
- At 5:52 of the third period, Army took a 2-1 lead as Clint Carlisle sent a pass from behind the net to Nick, who wristed a shot on goal from the blue line and the puck found its way through traffic, beating Berrafato low on the blocker side.
