THE LEAD: Parker Gahagen tallied 31 saves while three players scored for the Black Knights as the Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Army West Point 3-0 in game one of a best two-out-of-three Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal series. HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither the Crusaders or the Black Knights were able to find the back of the net in the first period as the Crusaders outshot Army West Point 14-7, and went 0-1 on the power play.
- At 5:49 of the second period, and with the Black Knights on the man-advantage, Tyler Pham sent a pass to Trevor Fidler and his one-timer from the slot found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Army.
- Army outshot Holy Cross 14-7 in the second period, while Army went 1-1 on the man-advantage and the Crusaders went 0-1.
- At 7:46 of the third period, Army extended its lead to 2-0 as Ryan Nick sent a shot on goal from the blue line, which was deflected in front by Conor Andrle, beating sophomore goalie Paul Berrafato (Williamsville, N.Y.) on the glove side.
- At 8:56 of the third period, Ian Mansfield drove to the net and sent a pass across to Josh Roberts who tapped it into the open side to make it 3-0 Army.
- The Crusaders were unable to find the back of the net in the third period, as Army tallied the 3-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Holy Cross outshot Army 31-30 in the contest.
- Berrafato posted 27 saves, while Gahagen had 31.
- The Crusaders went 0-5 on the power play, while Army went 1-2.
- The Crusaders won 36 face-offs, while Army recorded 25.
