• The Lead: The Crusaders earned numerous top finishes as they placed eighth overall in team scoring at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday at Boston University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Freshman Sarah Friess (Castleton on Hudson, N.Y.) earned a 12th place finish in the 60 m dash with a time of 8.02, while classmate Alexandra Curtin (Winchester, Mass.) finished closely behind in 16th in a time of 8.07.
• In the 400 m dash, sophomore Stefanie McArdle (South Glastonbury, Conn.) came in 13th overall at 58.13, as classmate Kelly O'Halloran (Litchfield, Conn.) placed 22nd overall at 59.64.
• Senior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) earned an 11th overall finish in the 800 m run in a time of 2:16.68, while sophomore Kate Spitler (Marshfield, Mass.) placed finished 15th overall at 2:17.48 and classmate Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn.) came in 18th at 2:18.08.
• In the 1000 m run, sophomore Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.) placed third overall at 2:55.79, as classmates Elizabeth Lombardo (Wakefield, Mass.) and Erin Ahearn (Ringwood, N.J.) placed 13th (3:09.16) and 14th (3:11.77), respectively.
• Junior Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) finished fifth overall in the one mile run with a time of 4:59.34, as classmate Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) earned eighth overall at 5:07.00.
• In the 3000 m run, Junior Kirsty Gargiulo (Summit, N.J.) would place 14th overall in a time of 10:52.23, as senior Katie Holdrige (Preston, Conn.) and junior Kara McCormack (Bolton, Mass.) finished 15th (11:04.49) and 16th (11:05.03), respectively.
• Sophomore Alanna Hitscherich (Sussex, N.J) came in 15th overall in the 60 m hurdles, setting a time of 9.49, as sophomore Tori Zamarra (Manalapan, N.J.) came in 16th overall at 9.51 and freshman Lauren Rasmus (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 17th at 9.63.
• Senior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) came in seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 m, as senior Morgan Zurlo (Glen Falls, N.Y.) placed 15th at 1.50 m.
• In the pole vault, junior Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) notched a height of 3.60 m to place third overall, as sophomore Jamison Briggs (Keene, N.H.) placed seventh with a height of 3.35 m.
• Curtin placed sixth overall with a mark of 5.64 m in the long jump, as Hitscherich came in eighth at 5.43 m, and junior Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) placed 12th at 5.31 m.
• Eldracher earned a sixth place finish in the triple jump at 11.48 m, as Hitscherich notched a distance of 10.78 m to place 13th and senior Alex Eckert (Bergenfield, N.J.) came in 14th at 10.55 m.
• In the shot put, senior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) notched a distance of 11.37 m to place 13th overall, as junior Cassie Kobelski (Andover, Mass.) came in 19th at 10.79 m and junior Alliyah Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) placed 22nd at 10.73 m.
• Provost earned a 19th place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.13 m, as freshman Victoria Attaya (Billerica, Mass.) came in 29th at 11.67 m.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

• Curtin's distance of 5.64 m in the long jump was just two centimeters shy of the Holy Cross record. Her mark is now ranked second in the Patriot League.

• The Crusaders return to action next Friday, February 12 as they compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
