Women's Swimming And Diving Falls To Sacred Heart In Dual Meet Action

THE BASICS:

The Lead: The women's swimming and diving team notched five first-place spots out of 16 events, but the Crusaders dropped a 179-119 decision to Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

With a 3-1 mark in dual meets this season, Holy Cross has swam to its best season record in dual meet action for at least 12 years.
Sophomore diver Casey Sherman set new Holy Cross records, taking first place in both diving events, including the one-meter (five required) with a score of 239.10 and one-meter (five voluntary) with a score of 186.95.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Freshman Leah Zogby notched a first-place finish for the Crusaders in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:15.74. Senior co-captain Kristin Lane swam just behind her to take second place for Holy Cross, registering a time of 11:23.68. Zogby later took second place in the 500 freestyle for a time of 5:27.78.
Junior Maura Mullaney tallied another first-place finish for the Crusaders in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:17.43. Mullaney also finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03, just behind Sacred Heart's Bryana Cielo in first with a time of 1:01.42.
Freshman Kayleigh Hoagland finished first overall in the 200 IM, recording a time of 2:17.81. Junior Nina Sparre was right behind Hoagland in second place for a time of 2:19.09. Hoagland later took the second place spot in the 100 backstroke (1:02.82).
In the 200 freestyle, junior Katie Conners was the first Crusader to finish the race, taking third place and registering a time of 2:02.36. Conners was later the first Holy Cross swimmer to finish in the 50 freestyle taking fourth place with a time of 25.67 and in the 100 freestyle, taking the third place spot for a time of 55.24.
Sophomore Caroline Body took fourth place in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.38), good for finishing as the first Crusader. Sacred Heart's Jessica Poole took first in this event with a time of 1:09.91. Junior Kelley Kraemer later was the first Holy Cross swimmer to finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.80, good for fourth place overall.
Sophomore Jenny O'Brien took second place in the 200 backstroke, swimming for a time of 2:17.06. Hoagland was behind O'Brien in third with a time of 2:18.91.
For relays, the team of Hoagland, Body, Mullaney and Conners finished for third place in the 400 medley relay as the first Holy Cross group with a time of 4:11.59.
The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relay, as the squad of senior co-captain Gina DeFloria, senior Jennifer Nash, freshman Alicia Vesey and freshman Sarah Underhill took secd place with a time of 1:46.61.
