Men?s Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw With Lafayette

The Lead: Senior forward Matt Villano scored for the Crusaders, as Holy Cross tied with Lafayette, 1-1, on Saturday night in Easton, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Villano gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game, as he scored off a rebound set up from freshman midfielder Rory Birse.
Both teams played an evenly-matched first half, with the shots even at four each.
Ryan Goncalves tied the game up for Lafayette in the 83rd minute of play with a goal off a cross to make it 1-1.
The Leopards notched three shots on net in overtime, but freshman goalkeeper Bobby Hurstak stopped all three shots faced in extra time to keep it a 1-1 game.

KOOLMAN'S KORNER:

“The conditions were really tough today as it was extremely windy,” said head coach Marco Koolman, “but we were able to play really well in the first half despite that. I think in the second half, we worked hard but let up a late goal. In overtime we had a lot of chances but were unable to find the back of the net.”

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Hurstak made five saves for the Crusaders.
Brad Seeber stopped six shots for Lafayette.
Shots attempted were 10-9 in favor of the Leopards.
Senior forward Joey DeVivo led the Crusaders with three shots, including one on net.
