THE LEAD: Casey Fitzgerald scored two goals to lead the Eagles as the Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to No. 10 Boston College, 6-1, at DCU on Saturday evening.  

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Mike Booth got the scoring started for the Eagles at 14:33 of the first period from a wrist shot on the glove side off a pass by Graham McPhee.
  • Just before the end of the first period, Casey Fitzgerald made it a 2-0 game when he snuck the puck into the net off an assist by Zach Walker with 3.2 seconds left on the clock.
  •  At 8:19 in the second period, the Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 when Luke McInnis fired a wrist shot over the glove side off a pass from David Cotton.
  • Matthew Gaudreau posted his first point of the night with a back hand goal to the bottom stick side with help from McPhee and Walker to increase the lead to 4-0 at 13:08 of the second period.
  • Chris Calnan put the Eagles up 5-0 on a one timer that found the low stick side off a pass from McPhee at 3:07 of the third period on a power play goal.
  • At 9:05 of the third, Fitzgerald posted his second goal on a one timer that came from a deflection off Gaudreau.
  • Holy Cross made the score 6-1 at 12:25 of the third when freshman defenseman Dalton Skelly's wrist shot found the back net on the stick side with assists from junior forward Danny Lopez and sophomore defenseman Spencer Trapp.
  • Neither team was able to score again for a 6-1 final. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • BC outshot Holy Cross, 35-26.
  • Junior goalie Paul Berrafato recorded 29 saves, while BC goaltender Joe Woll tallied 25.
  • The Crusaders went 0-3 on the power play, while the Eagles went 1-3.
  • The Eagles won 32 face-offs, while the Crusaders secured 31.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Skelly's goal was the first of his career. 
  • Trapp has recorded a point in each of the first four games this season.
