#19 Men's Varsity Eight Defeats #16 Syracuse At Eastern Sprints

  • The Lead: The Holy Cross men's rowing team competed at the 2015 Eastern Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond. Princeton won the team title to earn the Rowe Cup. The Crusaders' No. 19 nationally ranked varsity eight won the third-level final including defeating No. 16 Syracuse.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The No. 19 nationally ranked varsity eight placed fifth in its opening heat out of six boats with a time of 5:47.096 as the Crusaders defeated George Washington (5:49.172). No. 4 Princeton won with a time of 5:37.329. The Crusaders (5:44.997) then won the third-level final out of six boats for a 13th-place overall finish in the varsity eight competition out of 18 boats. The Crusaders defeated No. 16 Syracuse (5:47.419), George Washington (5:49.038), MIT (5:49.135), Georgetown (5:52.568) and Rutgers (6:04.796).
  • The second varsity eight placed sixth in its heat out of six boats with a time of 6:03.191. The Crusaders (6:08.087) were then fourth in the third-level final out of five boats for a 16th-place finish in the overall second varsity eight competition out of 17 boats.  
  • The third varsity eight was fifth in its heat out of six boats with a time of 6:05.363 as the Crusaders defeated Georgetown (6:13.717). The Crusaders (6:17.879) then were third in the third-level final out of five boats for a 15th-place overall finish in the third varsity eight competition out of 17 boats.
  • The fourth varsity eight was fifth in its heat out of five boats with a time of 6:16.608. The Crusaders (6:17.166) then placed third in the petite final of out four boats for a ninth-place overall finish in the fourth varsity eight competition out of 10 boats.
  • The fifth varsity eight placed seventh in the grand final out of seven boats with a time of 6:27.333.
