The Lead: Junior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) led the way for Holy Cross with an NEICAAA qualiftying and career-best time of 58.70 and first-place finish in the 400-meter dash as the Crusaders took part in the Brown Springtime Invitational at Brown Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Freshman Emily Cafaro (Garden City, N.J.) finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.29, as senior Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.) finished second with a season-best time of 26.51 in the 200-meter.
• Following Gildea in the 400-meter was freshman Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn.) in the runner-up spot at 59.38 and classmate Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.) in fourth at 59.87. Taking the eighth spot was junior Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) at 1:00.69 with sophomore Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) in tenth at 1:01.44.  Junior Erin Cunningham (Reading, Mass.) finished in 16th with a career-best time of 1:033.33 in the preliminary heat.
• In the 800-meter, freshman Claire Turner (Norwalk, Conn.) finished eighth with a season-best time of 2:18.33, while sophomore Anne Mullican (Terre Haute, Ind.) finished 22nd in the one-mile run with a career-best time of 5:38.74.
• The Crusaders had three top-10 finishes in the 3,000-meter run in freshman Annie Sullivan (Southborough, Mass.) in fourth (10:28.17), junior Katie Holdridge (Preston, Conn.) in fifth (11:05.00) and freshman Haley Leishman (Suffield, Conn.) in sixth (11:39.74), respectively.
• In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Emily Iannaconi (Long Valley, N.J.) crossed the finish line in fifth with a time 20:09.33.
• Freshman Katie Heenan (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.71 seconds.
• The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Shubrick, senior co-captain Fiorella Johnson (Reading, Conn.), freshman Stefanie McArdle (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Gabriela West (Chester, N.J.) crossed the finish line in second with a time of 50.22.
• In the high jump, junior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) led Holy Cross with a fifth place finish (1.60m), while junior Morgan Zurlo (Glen Falls, N.Y.) followed in sixth (1.55m) and freshman Jessica Stietzel (Stamford, Conn.) in eighth at 1.50 meters.
• Sophomore Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) cleared a height of 3.35 meters in the pole vault as senior Alexandra Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) followed in sixth (3.35m), junior Alex Eckert (Bergenfield, N.J.) in seventh (3.05m) and freshman Jamison Briggs (Keene, N.H.) in eighth (3.05m).
• Stietzel also had top-10 finishes in both the long jump (sixth, 4.50m) and triple jump (fourth, 10.64m).
• Sophomore Cassie Kobelski (Andover, Mass.) also threw to two top-10 finishes in the discus (fourth, 34.00m, career-best) and hammer (seventh, 32.02m, career-best) throws.
• In the javelin, freshman Kelly O'Halloran (Litchfield, Conn.) threw a distance of 27.52 meters for an eighth place finish.

UP NEXT

• The Crusaders return to the track this Friday-Saturday, May 1-2, when they take part in the Patriot League Outdoor Championship at Army's Shea Stadium in West Point, N.Y. beginning at 9:00 a.m.
