GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a scoreless first inning, Holy Cross grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the second. Crusader junior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) plated sophomore Bill Schlich (Massapequa, N.Y.) on a sacrifice fly for the first run of the frame. St. Clair then cashed in two on a double into left field to score juniors Bobby Indeglia (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Connor Perry (Haverhill, Mass.) and put Holy Cross ahead 3-0.
  • Siena, however, rallied for five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning to gain the 5-3 lead.
  • The Saints added a run in both the fifth and seventh innings to grab the 7-3 advantage.
  • Holy Cross cut into the margin in the bottom of the seventh, as St. Clair crossed home on an RBI-single by sophomore Anthony Critelli (Holmdel, N.J.) to make the score 7-4.
  • Siena added an insurance score in the top of the ninth inning on a home run to go ahead by four runs (8-4).
  • Holy Cross put together a surge in the bottom of the ninth, as St. Clair doubled and scored two batters later on a wild pitch. The Crusaders, however, left two runners stranded, as Siena held on for the 8-5 triumph.

  • The Saints held the 14-10 advantage in the hitting department and the 6-4 edge in extra-base hits.
  • In addition to St. Clair, Critelli was the only other Crusader with multiple hits, as he batted 2-for-4 with one RBI.
