  • The Lead: Holy Cross senior Jack St. Clair (Newton, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while classmate Evan Ocello (Camarillo, Calif.) scored twice to help lead the Crusaders to a 3-1 victory over Hartford in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Fiondella Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crusaders opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. With runners on second and third, St. Clair put Holy Cross ahead 1-0 on an RBI-single through the left side to plate junior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). Crusader sophomore Anthony Critelli (Holmdel, N.J.) scored Ocello on an RBI-double during the next at bat to make the score 2-0.
  • Holy Cross added an insurance run in the top of the third, as Ocello scored on a bases-loaded double play, giving the Crusaders the 3-0 lead.
  • Hartford struck for a run in the bottom of the third inning, as Ben Bengtson drove in Dalton Ruch on an RBI-single to make the score 3-1.
  • The Hawks only managed only two base hits over the final five frames, as the Crusaders held on for the 3-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross senior Collin Manning (Charlotte, N.C.) picked up the win (1-2), as he pitched two no-hit innings out of the bullpen. Sophomore Zach Fox (Los Gatos, Calif.) pitched the first four frames in the no-decision, allowing one run on four hits, while fanning four batters.
  • Crusader junior Sean Gustin (Stoneham, Mass.) earned his first save of the season with only one hit surrendered in the ninth inning.
  • Hartford starter Brian Stepniak was charged with the loss (0-1), as he allowed two runs on three hits in one inning of work.
  • Holy Cross held the 8-6 edge in total hits and the 4-0 advantage in extra-base hits.
  • In addition to St. Clair and Ocello at the plate, Critelli also had a solid day going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
