  • The Lead: Junior outfielder Bobby Indeglia (North Kingstown, R.I.) went two-for-three with a double, an RBI and a run scored, but the Holy Cross baseball team was defeated by Boston College 4-2 at the New England Baseball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Boston College opened the scoring in the top of the second inning on an RBI double by catcher Nick Sciortino.
  • The Eagles then increased their lead to 4-0 with three more runs in the top of the third inning.
  • Outfielder Chris Shaw had a two-run double in the inning, while outfielder Donovan Casey added an RBI single.
  • The score would remain the same until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Holy Cross was able to plate two runs.
  • Indeglia drove in the first run with an RBI double, then sophomore designated hitter Josh Hassell (Tulsa, Okla.) delivered an RBI single.
  • But with two men on and two men out, Boston College closer John Nicklas was able to induce a groundout to end the inning.
  • Nicklas then retired the Crusaders in order in the ninth inning to close out the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Eric Stone earned the victory for the Eagles by tossing three shutout innings while allowing only one hit, and Nicklas picked up the save with 1-1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Five different Holy Cross relief pitchers combined to throw 6-1/3 shutout innings while surrendering only four hits.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they travel to Lafayette for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
