The Lead: Thomas Aldworth posted one goal and two assists for the Bobcats as the Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to No. 18 Quinnipiac, 4-2, in front of a crowd of 3,560 in Hamden, Conn.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Quinnipiac scored the only goal of the first period when Soren Jonzzon found the back of the net at 5:03. Aldworth posted an assist on the goal.
- Quinnipiac went 0-1 on the power play, while the Bobcats outshot the Crusaders, 11-2.
- The Crusaders tied the game at 1-1, when sophomore T.J. Moore (Edina, Minn.) netted his first goal of the season just 1:21 after the opening face-off of the second period. Freshman Michael Laffin (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and senior assistant captain Joe McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) each tallied an assist on the goal.
- The Bobcats responded at 9:27 when Aldworth gave Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead.
- Quinnipiac increased its advantage to 3-1 when Tim Clifton scored on a power play at 13:07.
- The Crusaders answered back at 15:36 when junior Mike Barrett (Orland Park, Ill.) found the back of the net to make it a 3-2 contest. Moore assisted on the goal for his second point of the game.
- Each team took 10 shots for the second period, while the Crusaders went 0-1 on the man-advantage and the Bobcats went 1-1.
- At 16:53 of the third period, Travis St. Denis netted a goal on a power play to give Quinnipiac a 4-2 lead.
- With 48 seconds left in the third period, the Crusaders went with an empty net but were unable to score as Quinnipiac posted the 4-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Quinnipiac outshot Holy Cross 18-6 in the third period and 39-18 in the game.
- Freshman goalie Tommy Nixon (Sherwood Park, Alberta) made his collegiate debut and recorded 35 saves, while Michael Garteig posted 16 to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
- The Crusaders went 0-3 on the power play, while the Bobcats went 2-5.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Laffin posted his first collegiate point with an assist.
- McNamara now has 32 career assists which are seventh all-time by a defenseman in the program's Division I history.
- Barrett netted his team-leading second goal of the season. He now has 22 career goals.
