LEWISBURG, Pa. – Holy Cross fell to Bucknell in a close conference matchup today from Becker Field by a score of 2-1. Freshman Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) posted the only RBI in the game for the Crusaders in the third inning. Sophomore Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) struck out a season best seven batters in the game. Holy Cross slips to 3-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Patriot League while the Bison improve to 10-13 and 3-1 in conference play.
Bucknell opened the game by scoring the first run in the second. Kristen Zahn started the inning off by hitting a double down to the right field line and scored when Cheyanna Young doubled to left field. Holy Cross tied the game up 1-1 in the third by way of Krisanda's single to center field. Junior Cassie Girvalo (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) crossed the plate.
The Bison added the second and final run in the fifth as junior Colie Escobar homered off starting pitcher Durham.
In the seventh, Holy Cross had their chances to get in reach of knotting the game up as freshman Kylee Malouf (Simi Valley, Calif.) bunted to the starting pitcher Lara Bean and reached first base safely but the Crusaders were unable to score.
Durham suffered the loss (2-5) as she threw six innings of work from the circle giving up six hits and two runs as she faced 26 batters. Bean earned the win as she stands with a 4-2 overall record as she faced 32 batters giving up one run and earned two strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
The second game scheduled for today was postponed due to the rain. Holy Cross (3-9, 2-2 PL) will be back on the diamond tomorrow as the two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. from Becker Field.
