WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team fell to Colgate by a final score of 8-1 in its home opener on Saturday, Mar. 28. The Crusaders led 1-0 for five innings before the Raiders scored eight unanswered runs across the sixth and seventh innings.

HOLY CROSS 1, COLGATE 8 (FINAL)

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

• Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 2-6), 6.1 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, five runs (five earned), eight strikeouts, three walks
• Colgate: Maya Servedio (W, 3-0), 7.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, run (none earned), six strikeouts, three walks

IN RELIEF:

• Holy Cross: Bridget Mulkeen, 0.2 innings pitched, two hits allowed, three runs (three earned), strikeout, two walks

AT THE PLATE:

• Silje Emery: 1-for-4, run
• Kate Trudgen: 1-for-3
• Anna Brait: 1-for-3, double, RBI
• Kendall Grady: 1-for-3
• Mia Cascio: 1-for-4, double, two RBI, run
• Tella Rivera: 1-for-3, two RBI, walk

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Senior Anna Brait doubled in the bottom of the first inning, bringing around sophomore Silje Emery to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
• After five scoreless frames, Colgate would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth as a result of a pair of RBI singles to center field by Lily Haluska and Kayla Martin.
• The Raiders added six more runs in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 8-1.

UP NEXT: 

• The Crusaders close out the series against Colgate with a doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 29.
• First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. followed by game two at 2:00 p.m.
