Postgame video with Camille Trainor

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Camille Trainor (Worcester, Mass.) pitched a complete game and hit her first career home run to help lead the Holy Cross softball team past Boston University, 6-4, Tuesday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 17-23, while Boston University falls to 27-13. Holy Cross' 17th win is its most since the 1999 season when it won 24 games.

With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Trainor hit her first career run over the center field fence to give Holy Cross a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second and third inning, the Terriers took a 2-1 lead with a home run and back to-back doubles in the top of the fourth. Trainor led off the bottom of the inning with a single and tied the game on a single by senior Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.). Boston regained the lead in the fifth after scoring two runs on three hits, but Holy Cross' offense wasn't done scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Crusaders were able to take advantage of a BU error to score four runs. With two outs and senior Tiffany Medwid (Imperial, Pa.) on third and Trainor on second, senior Keeley Seniuk's (Phoenix, Ariz.) ground ball to shortstop was misplayed and Medwid scored. After Seniuk stole second, a single to center by sophomore Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) scored two runs, giving Holy Cross back the lead and eventually the win. Freshman Stephanie Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) pinch ran for Fregenti and scored on an RBI single by junior Gwen Reimer (Pottsville, Pa.) to give the Crusaders a 6-4 lead. Trainor shut down the BU offense in the final two innings, allowing no runs on just two hits to earn her first complete game win of the season.

Trainor pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out two. Whitney Tuthill suffered the loss for BU, pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs, two earned, on five hits and striking out three. Erin Schuppert pitched the final one and one-third innings, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two.

Holy Cross travels to Lehigh for its final Patriot League regular season series on Saturday-Sunday, April 30-May 1. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. both days.
