Holy Cross Softball Drops Two At Boston University

BOSTON, Mass.  – Boston University scored 25 runs to defeat the Holy Cross softball team by scores of 12-5 and 13-3 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the BU Softball Field in Boston, Mass. With the two losses, the Crusaders fall to 4-12 overall, while the Terriers improve to 13-10.

Game 1

Holy Cross scored three runs on three hits and capitalized on a BU error to start the game off with a 3-0 lead.  The Terriers added a run in the bottom of the inning and then Holy Cross scored twice on two outs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. The Terriers scored four runs in the bottom of the second and put up one in the fourth and three in the sixth and seventh to win the game 12-5. Junior Katie Alexander (Tigard, Ore.) suffered the loss for the Crusaders, falling to 1-2 on the season. Alexander pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Sophomore Camille Trainor (Worcester, Mass.) entered the game in relief, pitching two innings and allowing six runs on seven hits.

Game 2

The Terriers scored eight runs in the first inning and three in the second to take a commanding 11-0 lead. Senior Elizabeth Foley (Charlton, Mass.) led off the third inning with a single to third base and then advanced to second on a single by sophomore Gwen Reimer (Pottsville, Pa.). Both runners moved up a base on a fly out by junior Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) and then scored on a double by junior Tiffany Medwid (Imperial, Pa.). Medwid scored on a bunt single by junior Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.). BU scored twice in the bottom of the inning and then held the Crusaders scoreless to end the game 13-3. Senior Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass.) suffered her third loss of the season, falling to 2-3.

Holy Cross opens the season at Freshman Field on March 31 against Hartford. The Crusaders will kick off the doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
