Men's Track & Field Announces Team Awards

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head men's track and field coach Jim Kavanagh has announced team awards for the 2008-2009 season. The Crusaders held a year end awards banquet on Wednesday, April 29.

Senior Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) was named the recipient of the Bart Sullivan Award. Mish led the Crusaders at the New England Indoor Championship with a first place finish in the 5,000 meter run, with a season-best time of 14:35.70. He is the first Crusader to win an event at the New England Indoor Championship since 1995, and is the first Holy Cross runner to ever claim the 5,000 title. At the Husky Spring Open, Mish qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 30:57.25.

Senior Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) received the Skip O'Connor Award. Medeiros finished sixth in the shot put at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with a distance of 14.98 meters.

Senior Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.) received the Thomas Fitzsimmons Award. Maggio is the current record holder in the 200 meter dash and finished seventh at the Patriot League Indoor Championship in the 200 with a time of 22.66.

Senior Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.) received the Thomas Duffy Outstanding Performer Award. Fidelus placed eighth in the 800 meter run at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with a time of 1:56.86.

Senior Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.) was named the recipient of the Richard Donahue Outstanding Performer Award. Mandravelis led the Crusaders in the weight throw at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with a ninth place finish and a distance of 15.44 meters. At the Solomon Husky Invitational, Mandravelis qualified for the IC4A Championship in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.80 meters.

Freshman Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) was named Most Valuable Freshman, while freshman Mark Drago (Oak Park, Ill.) was named Most Improved. Sophomore Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) was named the Most Valuable Sophomore.

The Holy Cross men's track and field team is preparing for the upcoming Patriot League Outdoor Championship on May 1-2, in West Point, N.Y.
