Holy Cross Men's Hockey Falls To RIT, 5-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to the Rochester Institute of Technology, 5-2, on Saturday evening at the Frank Ritter Ice Arena in Atlantic Hockey action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-3-1 overall (1-2-1 Atlantic Hockey), while the Tigers improve to 3-4-1 (2-1-1 Atlantic Hockey) and sweep this week's the two-game series, 2-0.

RIT took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Brennan Sarazin scored a power play goal at the 15:44 mark. For the period, the Tigers outshot the Crusaders, 11-8.

The Tigers increased their lead with a goal by Stevan Matic 2:20 into the second period. Sean Murphy made it a 3-0 game when he netted a power play goal at the 16:48 mark. Holy Cross freshman defenseman Mike Daly (South Burlington, Vt.) scored his first collegiate goal when he scored on a two man-advantage power play at 17:58 to make the score 3-1. Sophomore defenseman Mark Znutas (Emerson, N.J.) and junior co-captain forward Ryan Driscoll (Dorchester, Mass.) each assisted on the goal. Just 29 seconds later, Sarazin netted a shorthanded goal for his second score of the game. RIT outshot Holy Cross by a 10-9 margin for the period.

Jesse Newman increased the RIT lead to 5-1 at 3:13 into the third period when he scored the Tigers' second shorthanded goal of the contest. Junior forward Brodie Sheahan (Lethbridge, Alberta) made it a 5-2 game at the 6:49 mark when he scored on the power play for his team-leading fourth goal of the year. Junior forward Rob Forshner (Sundre, Alberta) and freshman forward Jay Silvia (Burlington, Mass.) had assists. Neither team scored the rest of the way for the 5-2 final score.

Holy Cross junior goalie Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) made 31 saves and is 0-1-0 on the season, while RIT's Jared DeMichiel stopped 21 shots to improve to 2-2-0. The Tigers outshot the Crusaders, 36-23, while Holy Cross went 2-11 on the power play and RIT went 2-7.

The Crusaders return to action at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, November 7-8, when they host Mercyhurst in two Atlantic Hockey games.
