WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team shut out Merrimack, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

With the win, Holy Cross moves to 3-1 while Merrimack falls to 0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders wasted no time getting on the board thanks to senior Maguire Sturgis' first goal of the season 42 seconds into the contest. Freshman Marianna MacLean dribbled the ball 25 yards into the circle and drew the defense to her before sending a centering pass to Sturgis for the one-time shot into the net.
• Holy Cross dominated the second quarter, posting 11 shots.
• MacLean picked up her second goal of the weekend 3:28 into the second half, receiving a pass from sophomore Maeve Kiernan and carrying the ball to the goal before depositing it into the opposite corner.
• Kiernan netted her first collegiate goal with 2:13 to play in regulation, tapping in a ball that was redirected by MacLean for the 3-0 lead.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Senior Madison Clark recorded one save in her first collegiate start, win, and shutout.
• MacLean leads the Patriot League with five assists on the season, and ranks fourth with nine points.

UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will welcome the Stanford Cardinal to the Hart Turf Field on Friday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.
