HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Holy Cross football team came up short in its first road contest of the season, falling 35-10 to Colgate on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Junior receiver
Ty Curran had a career day, totaling 130 yards on seven receptions. Junior quarterback
David Lynch completed 19 of 35 passes for a total of 264 yards in the air. Sophomore tight end
Drae Tyme had a 59-yard catch on the day, and sophomore running back
Joseph Williams was Holy Cross' leading rusher, totaling 44 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker
Adam Due totaled a team-best 13 tackles. Senior safety
Garrett Baldwin had an all-around day, with four tackles, three pass breakups and an eight-yard sack.
Receiver Matt Fogler caught three touchdowns for Colgate, with 153 total yards on the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Raiders got on the board first, with a 33-yard catch to take a 7-0 lead with 10:57 remaining in the first quarter.
- Lynch had back-to-back completions of 28 yards and 27 yards, respectively, to Curran — bringing the Crusaders to the one-yard line. Holy Cross settled for a 23-yard field goal from sophomore Owen Saraceno to cut within 7-3 with 5:57 left in the first.
- Colgate immediately responded with a 64-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-3 lead. That advantage grew to 21-3 early in the second quarter when Danny Shaban punched in a one-yard score.
- A 17-yard reception by Curran and a penalty on the Raiders helped set up the Crusaders at the seven-yard line; Williams ran the ball to the end zone to bring the Crusaders within 21-10 with 2:20 left in the second quarter.
- The Raiders scored late in the first half and opened the second half with a 58-yard touchdown to build a 35-10 lead with 13:45 left in the third.
- Junior safety Braden Haas picked off a Jake Stearney pass at the goal line to thwart another Colgate scoring attempt with 8:10 left in the third. The Raiders managed to keep Holy Cross off the board for the remainder of the game, however.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Haas' interception was the first of his career and the first by a Crusader this season.
- Due's 13 tackles were a career best.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders travel to Oxford, Ohio for an FBS showdown with Miami University.
- Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
