Volleyball upended by Colgate Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman right side Kat Teepe recorded 10 kills as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell 3-1 to Patriot League foe Colgate Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Arena.

Teepe paced the Crusaders (6-9, 0-3 PL) in kills while adding three digs and a solo block and an assist. Morgan Reese was the impact player for Colgate (7-6, 2-2 PL) tallying a game-high 15 kills with four digs and an ace.

Raiders 3, Crusaders 1 (18-25, 30-28, 16-25, 21-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • With the opening set tied 2-2, Colgate produced six straight points to lead 8-2. Holy Cross stopped play with a timeout and a Colgate dual block expanded the run to 7-0 and edge to 9-2. Teepe tipped a kill home putting Holy Cross down four, 12-8. That was start of a 4-0 Crusader stretch with sophomore middle blocker Kyla Harris dropping an ace pulling the Crusader within one, 12-11. Holy Cross trailed by one, 15-14 at the media timeout. From there, Colgate used a 6-1 burst to lead 21-15. They won the set 25-18.
  • An ace from freshman setter/right side Keira Mullen in the second set opened up a 5-1 Crusader edge early. Down by four, Colgate rallied to level the margin 9-9. After a timeout, Teepe set up senior outside hitter Georgia Murphy for a kill for the one point, 10-9 advantage. She then placed an ace down the line to increase her team lead to 12-10. The Raiders moved ahead 15-14 at the media timeout. Down two, Holy Cross produced five in a row to push ahead 21-18 following a junior middle blocker Lacey Murphy kill. Colgate rallied back to reach set point, 24-23, but the Crusaders tied it up using a Harris kill to need extra serves. Lacey Murphy was key down the stretch for Holy Cross recording a kill and a huge block with Mullen as they tied the match 1-1 following a 30-28 set win.
  • The Raiders doubled up the Crusaders 8-4 following back-to-back aces to move the score to 9-4 which resulted in a Crusaders timeout. Another Colgate kill increased the score to 14-6. They held a 15-8 lead at the media timeout. A 6-2 Crusader run using kills from sophomore outside hitter KK Green, Georgia Murphy and freshman right side Sarahya College brought the margin to three, 17-14. From there, Colgate closed the set on an 8-2 run to have a 2-1 match lead.
  • Junior outside hitter Gabby Wold made her first appearance of the season and tallied her first kill set up by freshman setter Drew Flanagan from the outside putting her team down two, 5-3. Green tied the fourth set 9-9 with a kill. Colgate countered out producing the Crusaders 5-2 to lead 14-11. Four straight from the Crusaders pushed them ahead 15-14 after a Flanagan skip set kill. Following the media stoppage, Colgate scored five consecutive markers part of an 8-2 burst to lead 22-17. Holy Cross came within a pair, 22-20, but the guests closed out the match.
INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Georgia Murphy manufactured double-digit digs for the fourth time in 2026.
  • Flanagan paced the Crusaders in assists with 17.
  • Teepe recorded double-digit kills for the first time since the opening weekend match against Rhode Island (August 29).
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders end their four game homestand with a Cousy Cup match on Sunday, Sept. 27 against Army West Point (8-4, 2-1 PL)
