SET SCORES:
Black Knights 3, Crusaders 1 (27-25, 17-25, 22-25, 22-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders led 3-0 early getting a block from freshman right side Sarahya College and sophomore middle blocker Kyla Harris. Back-to-back kills from the Black Knights gave them their first lead of the match, 5-4. Teepe regained the lead to the Crusaders at 8-7. Kills from sophomore outside hitter KK Green, freshman setter Drew Flannagan and Sorensen had Holy Cross ahead 11-8. Army tied the score 11 all, but Holy Cross again produced three straight and held a 15-13 lead at the media timeout. Harris placed an ace with two Army attack miscues kept the Crusaders ahead 19-17. Army retook the edge at 20-19, however a junior middle blocker Lacey Murphy solo stuff put Holy Cross back in the lead at 22-20. Army reached match point 24-22, but Holy Cross tied it up 24 all. Sorensen completed the first set comeback converting an attack attempt.
  • Army doubled up the Crusaders 6-3 early in the second set thanks to three straight points. This was part of an 8-0 stretch as they led 11-3. Teepe stopped the run putting away a freshman setter/right side Keira Mullen set to the outside. The Black Knights led 15-6 at the media timeout and expanded the second set score to 17-8. A 7-2 Crusader stretch dropped the deficit to four, 19-15. That is the closest they would come as Army won the set 25-17.
  • The Black Knights aced the Crusaders to push ahead 7-4 in the important third set. Flanagan found College for a kill to drop the deficit to two, 10-8. The Crusaders used a 6-1 burst to jump ahead 14-13 following a block from sophomore middle blocker Isa Glover and Teepe. Back-to-back kills from the outside by Army regained the lead to their side 19-17. Sorensen leveled the match 20 all late in the set until the Black Knights captured the set 25-22.
  • A dual block from Glover and Teepe at the pin had the Crusaders in the lead at 7-4 in the fourth set. The lead increased to four 10-6 following Teepe's 15th kill of the match. Lacey Murphy and College combined for another stuff moving the margin to 13-8. Army looked to cool the Crusaders hot play with a timeout and went on a 9-1 burst to lead 17-14 following the media timeout. Holy Cross knotted the margin at 19-19 after a Glover ace. Army regained the lead and never looked back en route to the 3-1 match win.
INSIDE THE BOX:
