Holy Cross Athletics

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Amanda Aslan and sophomore Violet Carroll both scored goals, as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team tied Delaware 2-2 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders and the Blue Hens both begin the season at 0-0-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
• Aslan opened the scoring just 4:04 into the game, knocking in a rebound after a shot by freshman Manuela Heidenberger had been saved.
• Delaware responded with a goal by Tiana McIntyre at the 10:45 mark to tie up the score at 1-1.
• Less than a minute later, Carroll found the net with assists from sophomore Naemi Herzig and senior Emily Crovo, putting Holy Cross back up 2-1.
• The score remained the same until late in the third period, when the Blue Hens' Morgan Link scored to tie the game at 2-2 with 13.7 seconds left, after Delaware had pulled its goaltender.
• Following a scoreless overtime period, the Blue Hens won the shootout 1-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Freshman Livia Debnarova made 29 saves in net. 
• The Crusaders finished the game with a 35-31 advantage in shots on goal.
• Holy Cross now stands 3-1-1 in season openers over the last five years, while moving to 17-8-3 all-time in its first game of the year.

NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when it concludes the weekend series with Delaware at 2 p.m.
