Field hockey opens Patriot League play with shutout of Lehigh

BETHELEHEM, Pa. — The Holy Cross field hockey team shutout Lehigh in their Patriot League opener, 4-0, Saturday at Ulrich Field.

Holy Cross begins their 2026 Patriot League campaign with a 5-2 (1-0 PL) record, while Lehigh opens with a 1-5 (0-1 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Ava Huntley got the Crusaders on the board with what would prove to be the game-winning goal six minutes into the matchup. The goal is the first of her collegiate career.
  • Senior Maguire Sturgis scored her second goal of the season just over a minute into the second half, sending in a pass from junior Carolina di Gregorio Giralt.
  • Senior Saskia Williams scored a goal on a corner opportunity four minutes later to put the Crusaders up 3-0 off an insert from senior Marissa MacLean.
  • Freshman Marianna MacLean netted her sixth goal of the season with 2:23 remaining to cap the score at 4-0.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The game marked the second-straight shutout against Lehigh for junior goalkeeper Mia McCloskey.
  • Holy Cross held the edge in shots (25-0) and corners (8-0).

UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will return home to face Lafayette at the Hart Turf Field in another Patriot League matchup on Friday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.
