WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Bryant, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

Holy Cross enters Patriot League play with a 4-2 record, while Bryant moves to 3-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders got on the board just under four minutes into the matchup thanks to a penalty stroke goal by freshman Marianna MacLean.
• MacLean followed it up with a second goal five minutes later off a cross-corner pass from junior Ava Huntley.
• Bryant held the slight edge in the second and third quarter, posting eight shots to Holy Cross' four, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
• The Bulldogs found the back of the net 1:12 into the final quarter to cut the Crusader lead to 2-1.
• Bryant pulled their netminder for the extra field player with 2:26 remaining on the clock, before MacLean was able to complete her hat trick by scoring on the empty net.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Junior Mia McCloskey recorded nine saves in her fourth win of the season.
• MacLean leads the Patriot League with 15 points, sits in fourth with five goals, and third with five assists.
• Freshman Abby Kent recorded two defensive saves in the contest.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to open their Patriot League schedule on Sept. 19 when they face Lehigh at 11 a.m.
