WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore outside hitter Emma Sorensen hit .519 with a match-best 14 kills as the Holy Cross volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory against nonconference foe New Haven Tuesday evening at The Hazell Center.

The win moves the Crusaders to 2-2 overall early in 2026 while the Chargers slide to 1-3 on the young campaign.

Sorensen was set up for attack attempts a team-high 27 times also adding seven digs, three assists, a block and an ace. Junior middle blocker Lacey Murphy hit .308 with seven kills, a block and the match clinching ace. Senior outside hitter Georgia Murphy and reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week, right side Kat Teepe added seven and six kills apiece.

SET SCORES:
Crusaders 3, Chargers 0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-20)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Down 2-1 in the first set a 6-1 Crusader burst with a Sorensen ace put them in the lead at 7-3. Blocks from sophomore middle blocker Isa Glover, freshman right side Sarahya College and a New Haven attack error expanded the lead to 15-8. The hosts trimmed the deficit to three, 19-16. A Crusader miscue put the Chargers down 22-20. Lacey Murphy and Sorensen skied up for a block at the left pin to win the first set for Holy Cross.
• Junior defensive specialist Alana Whitwell found Sorensen for a kill pushing the Crusaders ahead 13-8 in the second set. The home team, New Haven used a 10-1 scoring stretch to lead 18-14. Holy Cross kept battling to tie the score 20-20 following a Georgia Murphy kill and a Glover stuff at the net. Freshman setter Drew Flanagan was clutch down the stretch for the Crusaders notching a kill and ace on back-to-back possessions to lead 23-21. She then found Georgia Murphy for a kill as the Crusaders were a point away from set point. New Haven tried a tip attack, but the ball landed out of bounds as the Crusaders won the set 25-22.
• Georgia Murphy put away a junior setter Tuana Ozarpaci set in the middle increasing the Holy Cross lead to 7-3. Glover converted another attack attempt doubling up the Chargers 12-6. Teepe added onto the lead, 18-11 via a kill from the right side. Lacey Murphy ended the match in straight sets with an ace.

INSIDE THE BOX:

• Sorensen has double-digit kills in all four matches this season.
• Holy Cross recorded 41 kills and 54.0 points in the match. They lead the Patriot League in kills per set (13.71) and points per set (17.76).
• The Crusaders out served New Haven 7-3 in aces.
• Four players, Flanagan (13), Ozarpaci (10), Whitwell (4) and sophomore defensive specialist Elizabeth Hall (4) recorded four or more assists.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders remain away from Worcester for the Northeastern Tournament beginning this Friday, Sept. 4 against the host Huskies (0-2).
