BOSTON – The Holy Cross volleyball team participated in the first day of the Northeastern/Harvard Tournament and dropped a 3-0 decision to the host Huskies Friday at the Cabot Center.
The loss sends the Crusaders to 2-3 overall while the Huskies improve to 1-2 early in 2026.

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- The Huskies jumped ahead 5-1 early in the opening set. A block on the right side from freshman right side Kat Teepe and junior middle blocker Lacey Murphy put the Crusaders behind by a pair, 5-3. Northeastern posted three straight points forcing the Crusaders into their first timeout of the set trailing 8-3. Holy Cross rallied to level the score 10-10 when freshman setter Drew Flanagan set up sophomore middle blocker Isa Glover for a kill. The Huskies stopped play with a timeout then exploded for a 9-1 stretch to jump in the lead at 19-11. They won the set 25-14.
- Holy Cross trailed 9-8 in the second set after a Lacey Murphy kill. The Huskies doubled up the Crusaders 6-3 over the next few serves to lead 15-11 at the media timeout. After the media timeout, Northeastern outproduced the Crusaders 6-1 to get closer to a set victory. They captured the set 25-14.
- Blocks from freshman right side Sarahya College and Lacey Murphy with a sophomore outside hitter Emma Sorensen ace and Green kill gave Holy Cross the 3-0 advantage early in set number three. Junior defensive specialist Alana Whitwell's ace kept the Crusaders ahead by three, 5-2. Six straight Northeastern points reestablished the lead for them at 10-7. Junior setter Tuana Ozarpaci dished to College on the right side for a kill putting the Crusaders down two, 14-12. Northeastern continued to attack using a 5-1 burst making it 19-13. Holy Cross countered with a min-run of their own as freshman middle blocker Norah Benjamins belted a kill through the floor as her team trailed 20-17. Facing match point, Sorensen produced a kill and ace keeping Holy Cross within two, 24-22. Northeastern won the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Northeastern hit .565 in the second set.
- Not one player from either team reached double-digit kills.
- Senior outside hitter Georgia Murphy, Sorensen and Flanagan had seven digs each.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders remain on the road to battle Fairfield and Harvard on Saturday, September 5.
- First serve versus Fairfield (1-2) is at 11 a.m. and at Harvard (0-0) is at 5 p.m.
