Crusaders fall short vs. #11 Lehigh

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross football team fell to #11 Lehigh, 35-10, on Saturday, Aug. 29 in the teams' season opener at Fitton Field.

Junior receiver Myles Abernathy had 129 yards on nine receptions in his collegiate debut. Junior quarterback David Lynch, in his first game with the Crusaders, completed 25 of his 40 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown. 

Sophomore tight end Drae Tyme had a touchdown in his first collegiate game, and sophomore Lincoln Fisher had a career-best 64 yards on three catches.  

On defense, sophomore Cam Boone had three pass breakups in his Crusader debut. Senior linebacker Adam Due was Holy Cross' leading tackler, with eight on the day, including five solo tackles. Junior linebacker Will Miller tallied seven tackles. 

Lehigh running back Luke Yoder scored three touchdowns and totaled 130 yards on the ground. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Lehigh scored 21 unanswered points in the first quarter to jump ahead early. 
  • A 14-yard completion by Lynch to Abernathy helped set up a 26-yard field goal from sophomore Owen Saraceno, making it a 21-3 game with 7:05 left in the first half. 
  • The Crusaders had a number of chances in the red zone, but strong defense by the Mountain Hawks thwarted multiple scoring opportunities. 
  • Lehigh took a 28-3 lead early in the third quarter on a 14-yard completion by Hayden Johnson to Nick Palumbo. 
  • Early in the fourth quarter, Lynch found Abernathy for a 24-yard gain on fourth down. Lynch then connected with Tyme over the middle for a 15-yard touchdown, making it a 28-10 score with 14:13 left in the fourth. 
  • An interception followed by Yoder's third touchdown of the game extended the Lehigh lead to 35-10. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 
  • Abernathy posted the first 100-yard receiving game by a Crusader since the 2024 season.
  • Fisher's 64 receiving yards were a career high. 
  • Lynch had the first 300-yard passing game by a Crusader since 2024.
UP NEXT: 
  • The Crusaders will hit the road to continue Patriot League action with a matchup at Colgate on Saturday, Sept. 5. 
  • Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
