Halligan, Mila shine for women's soccer in win over Brown

WORCESTER, Mass- Fifth-year midfielder Sam Halligan scored her third goal of the week while junior goalkeeper Antriana Mila recorded her first career shutout, powering the Holy Cross women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Brown at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 23. The Crusaders improve to 2-1-1 while the Bears fall to 1-1-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Brown held a 6-3 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks at the half, with the teams deadlocked in a scoreless draw on The Hill.
  • Halligan received a throw-in from senior defender Sofia Scalise and buried a 25-yard strike into the top-right corner of the net, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute.
  • Mila posted her first career clean sheet and tallied a career-high seven saves in the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 
  • At 2-1-1, Holy Cross is off to its best start since 2014.
  • The Crusaders earned their first win over Brown since Sept. 28, 1999, snapping the Bears' 12-game unbeaten streak in the series.
  • Holy Cross outshot Brown 12-10 while Holy Cross led 8-7 in shots on goal.
  • The Crusaders held an 8-3 advantage on corners.
  • Holy Cross and Stonehill finished with seven saves each.
  • Halligan recorded her fifth goal of the season, ninth as a Crusader and the 20th of her collegiate career.
  • After scoring five goals through four games, Halligan has already surpassed her season total from last year.
  • Halligan has recorded at least one point in each of her last five matches, dating back to Nov. 2, 2025.
