Women's soccer falls at Syracuse on Sunday

SYRACUSE, NY- The Holy Cross women's soccer team battled Syracuse into the second half before the Orange scored twice in a three-minute span to secure a 3-1 victory over the Crusaders on Sunday, Aug. 16. Syracuse took a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute before fifth-year midfielder Sam Halligan's penalty kick in the 66th-minute evened the match, but the Orange responded with two goals to take the lead for good. The Crusaders fall to 0-1-1 while the Orange improve to 1-0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Syracuse got on the board in the waning minutes of the first half when midfielder Vickie Jones drilled a shot into the upper center of the net in the 44th minute.
  • Holy Cross evened the match at 1-1 on a Halligan goal off a penalty kick in the 66th minute.
  • The Orange scored a pair of goals in a three-minute span to take a 3-1 advantage, a lead they would carry for the remainder of the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 
  • Syracuse outshot Holy Cross 10-7 and led 7-3 in shots on goal.
  • The Crusaders led the Orange in corners 5-2
  • Holy Cross and Quinnipiac finished with two saves each.
  • Halligan recorded her second goal of the season, fifth as a Crusader and the 17th of her collegiate career.
IN GOAL:
  • Holy Cross: Antriana Mila (L, 0-1-1), four saves
  • Syracuse: Maya Naimoli (W, 1-0-1), two saves
