Women's soccer draws with Quinnipiac in 2026 season opener

WORCESTER, Mass- After trailing 2-0 after the first 45 minutes of play, the Holy Cross women's soccer team rallied with a pair of goals early in the second half to draw with Quinnipiac in its 2026 season opener on Wednesday, Aug. 12. at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. Both the Crusaders and the Bobcats begin the season at 0-0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Quinnipiac got on the board at 20:58 in the first half after forcing a Holy Cross turnover, allowing Skye Cuscuna to find an open Klara Bengtsson, who buried a shot into the high center of the net.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead to 2-0 at 33:31 in the first half when Morgan Cupo slid a shot into the bottom-left corner on a free run at goal.
  • Quinnipiac led Holy Cross 6-4 in shots through the first 45 minutes of play.
  • Holy Cross got on the board in the 56th minute after senior forward Charlotte Hanchar found fifth-year midfielder Sam Halligan for a wide-open shot on goal.
  • Halligan would then assist junior defender Caroline Bierfeldt on a corner kick in the 60th minute to tie the match 2-2.
  • The two sides would remain scoreless for the remainder of the match resulting in a 2-2 draw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Holy Cross outshot Quinnipiac 7-3 in the second half to finish with an 11-9 advantage on the night
  • The Crusaders and Bobcats finished an even 4-4 in shots on goal.
  • Holy Cross and Quinnipiac finished with two saves each.
  • Halligan recorded the 16th goal of her collegiate career and her fifth as a Crusader.
  • Bierfeldt notched her second career goal.
  • Hanchar logged her third career assist and ties her season high from the past two years.
  • Halligan tallied the 11th assist of her college career and her first at the Division I level.
IN GOAL:
  • Holy Cross: Antriana Mila (T, 0-0-1), two saves
  • Quinnipiac: Olivia Jarvis (T, 0-0-1), two saves
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Syracuse for a 1:00 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Aug. 16.
