The No. 4 seeded Holy Cross baseball team will travel to No. 1 seeded and regular-season co-champion Army West Point for a Patriot League semifinal best-of-three series beginning with game one on Saturday, May 9 at 5 p.m. with game two coming on Sunday, May 10 at 2 p.m. and a potential game three following if necessary on Monday, May 11 at 2 p.m. The series will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT #4 HOLY CROSS (21-27, 13-13 PL):Â
- Holy Cross has won five of its last eight games including a 4-2 victory in 13 innings at league foe Lafayette on Saturday, May 2. Senior right-handed pitcher Jaden Wywoda tossed nine of the 13 innings matching a career-high in strikeouts with nine while freshman outfielder Liam Daly had the go-ahead two RBI single in the top of the 13th.
- Senior CJ Egrie was named the Patriot League Player of the Year on Wednesday. Egrie, the first two-time Player of the Year in program history was also a first team All-League selection and voted Academic All-Patriot League. Egrie ranks second in the NCAA in stolen bases (40) and stolen bases per game (1.00). He is 40-for-42 (95.2 percent success rate) on steals in 2026.
- Egrie is the Holy Cross all-time career stolen base leader with 92. His 40 steals in 2026 are the single-season program record. Egrie needs eight more steals to move to second all-time in patriot league history and nine more runs scored to set the Holy Cross program record.
- Wywoda, also a first team all-league selection is one of the best pitchers in program history. The NCAA leader in complete games (4), Wywoda ranks third in the Patriot League in innings pitched (73.2), strikeouts (64), and batting average against (.202), fourth in earned run average (3.54), and tied for fifth in wins (5). In Patriot League contests, Wywoda ranks second in innings pitched (53.0), third in BAA (.195), tied for third in wins (4), fourth in strikeouts (52) and fifth in ERA (2.89).
- Wywoda recently became only the third pitcher in program history to achieve 200 career strikeouts in a Crusader uniform.
- Wywoda is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 11.0 innings against Army in 2026 holding them to a .222 BAA.
- Junior second baseman Alex Sandell, a second team All-League selection has one of the best gloves at the keystone in the conference. Sandell has made multiple highlight reel plays in 2026 and is a perfect 112-for-112 (1.000 fielding percentage) on chances with 60 putouts and 52 assists in conference contests this season.
- Sandell has thrived against Army in 2026 hitting .444 (8-for-18) with a .600 OBP and a .833 SLG for a 1.433 OPS with two doubles, a triple, a home run, five RBI, 10 runs scored six walks and a stolen base.
- The Crusaders are 5-1 (.833) in 2026 against the Black Knights outscoring them 54-to-23 in those six contests. Dating back to 2025, Holy Cross is 10-3 (.769) over their last 13 meetings versus Army and have outscored its counterparts 95-to-54 over those 13 games.
- As a team in league games, Holy Cross ranks second in the league in average (.258), runs (154), RBI (135), walks (111), on-base percentage (.375), stolen bases (51), and third in ERA (4.99), third in strikeouts (210), third in runners caught stealing (10).
HOLY CROSS IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT:
- The Crusaders have won two Patriot League Championships in 2017 and in 2025. Last year they took two-of-three against Lehigh in Worcester then swept Army West Point for the conference championship. Holy Cross broke Army's streak of 12 wins when facing elimination. They are looking to become the first No. 4 seed to win the title since Bucknell in 2010.
- Overall, Holy Cross is 25-27 (.480) in the Patriot League Championship Series and have appeared 16 times.
- The Crusaders are 7-10 (.412) against the Black Knights winning two of the seven best-of-three series against Army.
SCOUTING THE #1 BLACK KNIGHTS (28-18, 17-9 PL):Â
- Army is 13-4 (.765) since getting swept by Holy Cross in Worcester on April 6. They ended the season taking two-of-three from Navy including a 16-4 win in seven innings on Sunday, May 3. Catcher Jack Quinlan was 2-for-4 with a double, home run and six RBI in the victory.
- Josiah Overbeek was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and an All-League first team selection. The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Semifinalist is a true two-way threat for the Black Knights hitting lead-off and out of the bullpen. In conference games, Overbeek leads the Patriot League in OBP (.473), home runs (7), and walks (34), while ranking second in OPS (1.012), fourth in slugging (.539) and tied for seventh in RBI (20). On the mound, he paces Army with five saves and is second in pitching victories (5). His 55 total walks in 2026 leads the NCAA.
- Thomas Schreck., the Black Knights shortstop earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors. Schreck is hitting .286 on the year while displaying an elite glove at shortstop. Schreck is the conference leader in assists (132) and is tied for third in the league with 23 double plays turned.
- Right-handed pitcher Andrew Berg was an All-League second team honoree for Army. Berg has started in each weekend series in 2026 and has hurled a pair of complete games pacing his team in ERA (3.94) and innings pitched (75.1).
- As a team, Army has the 13th best fielding percentage in the nation at .981 which is tops in the Patriot League. In conference only games, the Black Knights rank first in runs (180), RBI (163), walks (145), OBP (.395), second in doubles (49), fourth in ERA (5.30), and last in strikeouts (174)
ARMY IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT:
- The Black Knights have won a league best 12 Patriot League Championships including six straight titles from 2018 to 2024.
- Overall, Army is 52-29 (.642) in the Patriot League Tournament and have appeared 23Â times.
