Women’s rowing celebrates seniors at Women’s Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's rowing team competed at the Women's Sprints at Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday.

"Competing against higher-seeded programs provided an opportunity for our team to test its developing speed and culture this weekend, and our athletes rose to the challenge!" said assistant coach Vanessa Gabaldon. "While we knew the competition would be intense, three out of our five boats (2v8, 1v4 and 3v4) exceeded their original seedings, directly challenging the rankings on the water."

"What is most impressive about this weekend, is the relentless depth shown across the entire roster," continued Gabaldon. "This weekend demonstrated that every athlete, from the first boat to the fifth, is committed to pushing our collective standard forward, it proves that our speed isn't top-heavy - it's foundational."

The varsity 8+ finished fifth in its heat with a 6:59.509, before putting down a time of 7:03.135 in the third level final.

The second varsity 8+ recorded a time of 7:01.33 in its heat, before recording a 6:54.304 time in the third level final, 2.4 seconds ahead of third-place UConn.

The varsity 4+ finished fifth in its heat with a 7:49.219. In the third level final, the group finished second with a time of 7:43.798, 4.2 seconds ahead of third-place Bucknell.

The second varsity 4+ finished seventh in its heat with a 8:15.576, before finishing seventh in the petite final with a 8:15.278.

The third varsity 4+ finished fifth in the grand final, laying down a time of 8:05.504, 4.5 seconds ahead of sixth-place Radcliffe.
