Men’s lacrosse falls short at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Bucknell, 15-13, in Patriot League action Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

With the win, Bucknell improves to 8-5 (4-4 PL), while Holy Cross moves to 6-7 (2-5 PL) on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Aedan Cassidy and junior Sam McDonald got the Crusaders on the board in the opening minutes of the game before Bucknell tied it at 2-2 going into the quarter break.
  • Bucknell held the edge in the second quarter, narrowly outscoring the Crusaders 7-5. Freshman Matthew Plunkett, junior Bo Webster, junior Ryan Botek, freshman Shane McDonnell found the back of the net in the frame.
  • Botek scored to open the third period to cut the Bucknell lead to 9-8, but three-straight goals by the Bison extended the lead back to 12-8. Webster cut the scoring run with his second of the game, but two more from Bucknell made it 14-9 going into the final quarter of regulation.
  • Holy Cross dominated the fourth quarter - outscoring Bucknell 4-1 - thanks to two goals by Botek and strikes by Webster and freshman Caleb DaRocha, but the Crusaders' fell short in the end, 15-13.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Senior JR Long made four saves in net while freshman Jack Durnan recorded two in relief.
  • McDonnell led both sides with 15 faceoff wins, marking his ninth game this season with double-digit wins. Sophomore Harry Attell also tacked on five wins on his nine attempts as the Crusader duo went 20-for-32 (.625) at the 'X'.
  • Senior Julian Jenkins tied for the game-lead with five ground ball pickups while tacking on two caused turnovers. Botek's five goals tied for the game-lead as well.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross returns home to Kuzniewski Field on Friday, April, 24, to host Boston University in their final game of the regular season at 6 p.m.
