A Dynasty: Holy Cross women’s basketball wins third Patriot League Tournament title in four years against Lehigh

WORCESTER, Mass.- Patriot League Tournament Most Valuable Player, Kaitlyn Flanagan, posted 16 points, nine assists, and two rebounds as the No. 2 seed Holy Cross women's basketball team took down No. 4 seed Lehigh, 77-70 in the 2026 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Championship on Sunday, Mar. 15 at Hart Center Arena.

Holy Cross wins its third conference tournament title in the last four seasons; the Crusaders win their 14th overall championship, adding to their Patriot League-leading total. Candice Green wins her first Patriot League title as a head coach. Flanagan was named tournament MVP after averaging 11.0 points, 6.0 assists, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game on 50.0 percent (15-of-30) shooting. Senior forward Meg Cahalan joined Flanagan on the All-Tournament Team leading the Crusaders in scoring over three games.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 23-9 overall, while the Mountain Hawks end their season with a final overall record of 17-14. Holy Cross' offense featured five different double figure scorers in the win. The Crusaders closed the game a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to secure the victory. 

Cahalan finished the afternoon 4-of-6 from the field for 16 points. She also added five rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.

Senior guard Simone Foreman posted her 10th career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also tallied a block for the Crusaders.

Senior guard Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly tallied 12 points on 5-of-10 from the field to go along with five rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and an assist.

Junior guard Kendall Eddy posted 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting and 2-of-5 from deep. She also registered three rebounds and an assist.

Lehigh was led in scoring by Belle Bramer who scored 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting in the loss. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lehigh Gracyn Lovette got the scoring started on Sunday with a driving layup on their first possession.
  • Foreman fought through contact and tied the game at 2-2, hitting a hook shot from the low block.
  • Holy Cross took its first lead of the afternoon when Cahalan and Foreman converted layups on back-to-back possessions to make it 6-4.
  • After a layup by Lehigh's Leia Edwards and a step-back jumper from the elbow by Flanagan, Holy Cross led 8-6 at the under-five media timeout.
  • The Mountain Hawks jumped back in front on a corner three by Belle Bramer to take a 9-8 lead at the 2:52 mark of the first. Eddy answered right back for the Crusaders with a three of her own to make it 11-9.
  • Holy Cross used a 9-2 run to close the first quarter and take a 17-11 lead. Flanagan and Foreman each scored four points in the opening frame.
  • Flanagan and Donnelly opened the second quarter with six straight points, pushing Holy Cross ahead 23-11 and forcing a Lehigh timeout with 7:39 remaining.
  • After a broken play, Flanagan connected with Donnelly, who raced in for an uncontested layup to give Holy Cross a 25-13 lead.
  • Flanagan knocked down a corner three with 6:16 remaining in the first half, giving the Crusaders a 28-14 lead.
  • Lehigh hit back-to-back threes in a span of 42 seconds to cut the deficit to 28-20.
  • The Mountain Hawks closed the half on a 7-0 run, trimming the deficit as Holy Cross took a 32-27 lead into the break.
  • The Mountain Hawks used a 6-2 run to start the third quarter to pull within 34-33, prompting a Holy Cross timeout at 7:55.
  • The Mountain Hawks moved back in front when Lovette found Katie Hurt with a pass through traffic for a layup, making it 35-34.
  • Cahalan scored on an and-one layup at the 6:18 mark of the third and made the free throw to take a 38-35 lead.
  • After a scoring exchange, junior guard Hannah Griffin set up Foreman on a low post bucket for her third assist of the game, putting Holy Cross up 47-42 at the under-five third quarter media.
  • Cahalan drilled a three with 1:36 to play in the third, giving Holy Cross a 50-43 lead.
  • Holy Cross closed the third, leading 54-48 thanks to late makes by Cahalan and Flanagan.
  • Foreman scored the Crusaders first four points of the fourth, giving them a 58-53 lead with just under three to play.
  • Holy Cross took a 10 point lead on an Eddy three with 6:03 left.
  • Griffin made a layup with 4:55 to play, giving Holy Cross a 65-56 lead ahead of the final media of regulation.
  • Foreman  recorded her eighth bucket of the day with 2:11 to play in the fourth pushing the lead to 67-56.
  • Holy Cross outlasted Lehigh over the final two minutes to win 77-70.

  • Holy Cross snaps a six game losing streak against Lehigh en route to the conference title.

  • Holy Cross had five players score in double figures Cahalan (16), Flanagan (16), Foreman (16), Donnelly (12) and Eddy (10) for the first time this season. The Crusaders last achieved the feat on Mar. 10, 2025 against Navy (Lindsay Berger (19), Eddy (15), Flanagan (11), Foreman (11), and Cahalan (10)
