WALTHAM, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Bentley, 3-2 in overtime, Friday night at the Bentley Arena in game one of the Atlantic Hockey Semifinal Round.

With the win, Bentley takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Neither team was able to score in the first period, with Bentley holding the slight edge in shots, 13-9.
• Sophomore Matt Kursonis opened the scoring with 2:28 remaining in the second period, receiving a pass from senior Matt DeBoer and sending a one-timer just inside the opposite post to give Holy Cross the 1-0 lead going into the intermission.
• Bentley tied the game at 1-1 with a power play strike 20 seconds into the third period.
• Junior Brody Gagno scored his second of the season with 5:54 remaining in regulation to give Holy Cross the 2-1 lead. Pouncing on a loose puck at the defensive blue line, junior Connor Welsh created a two-on-one opportunity with Gagno, pulling in the defender before sending a pass across to Gagno for the tap-in goal.
• Pulling the netminder for the extra skater, Bentley tied the game at 2-2 with 53 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
• After a scrum in front of the net, Bentley found the loose puck for the overtime score with 3:28 remaining in the overtime period.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Freshman Danick Leroux recorded 36 saves in net.
• Holy Cross held the slight edge in blocked shots, 20-19, led by junior Will Elias and freshman Anthony Carone.

UP NEXT:

• The two sides will meet again tomorrow night, Saturday, March 17 at 6 p.m. for game two of the series.
