WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team will continue its run in the Atlantic Hockey America Tournament when it travels to Bentley for the semifinal round. The best-of-three series is set for Friday, March 13, Saturday, March 14, and, if necessary, Sunday, March 15 at the Bentley Arena.
Friday's matchup is set for 7 p.m., with Saturday and the if needed tie-breaking game on Sunday at 6 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on FloSports. Friday's matchup will also stream on the FloHockey FAST Channel, which can be accessed for free on FloHockey's YouTube and Amazon Prime channel.
Holy Cross finished the regular season with a 16-16-2 overall record, while going 14-10-2 in conference play, good for the no. 4 seed in the Atlantic Hockey tournament.
Senior defenseman
Mack Oliphant was named to the All-Atlantic Hockey Second Team and a finalist for the Individual Sportsmanship Award this week. Oliphant, who was previously an All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman and Second Team selection as a junior, finished the regular season with 15 points on five goals and ten assists in 34 games, committing just four penalties.
Junior forward
Jack Stockfish was also honored this week by Atlantic Hockey, earning a First Team selection and a finalist nod for Forward of the Year. Stockfish paced the Crusaders with 31 points on 12 goals and 19 assists in the 34 game regular season, and has tacked on two goals and two assists through two playoff games.
Bentley finished the regular season with an 18-11-5 overall record and a 16-6-4 conference record, taking the no. 1 seed in the tournament and the Atlantic Hockey Regular Season Champions title.
Bentley hosted no. 10 Mercyhurst for their quarterfinal set last weekend, winning a triple overtime nail-biter on Friday, 4-3, before shutting out the Lakers, 6-0, on Saturday to move on to the semifinals.
Jake Black, the overtime hero, led the Falcons and Atlantic Hockey with five points in the two game set on three goals and two assists. Netminder Lukas Swedin was second in Atlantic Hockey with a 1.08 goals-against average and fifth with a .925 save percentage.
All time, the Crusaders are 43-38-11 against Bentley, and 1-1 in tournament play. The two teams met four times this season, twice in Worcester and twice in Waltham. Coming out of the mid season break, the two teams tied in Waltham, 2-2, with Bentley taking the extra point in the ensuing shootout, before the Falcons stormed back in Worcester with an 8-3 win. When the two sides met again in February, Bentley left Worcester with a 4-2 win, before Holy Cross left Waltham with a 4-1 win.
In the four meetings, sophomore forward
Matt Kursonis led the way in points with three on a goal and two assists, while sophomore forwards
Noah Eyre and
Owen Kim recorded two goals each. In his three starts against the Falcons, freshman
Danick Leroux posted a 1.96 goals-against average and .935 save percentage with a 1-1-1 record.
The winner of the series will move on to the Atlantic Hockey Championship game on Saturday, March 21.
