Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 2 women’s basketball advances to 2026 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Championship game, will host No. 4 Lehigh on Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass.- Seniors Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly, Kaitlyn Flanagan and Meg Cahalan all finished in double figures on Thursday night at the Hart Center, lifting the No. 2 Holy Cross women's basketball to a 61-55 win over No. 3 Army West Point in the 2026 Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament semifinals. 

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 22-9 overall, while the Black Knights end their season with a final overall record of 24-7. The Crusaders will host No. 4 Lehigh in the championship game on Sunday, Mar. 15. Tickets can be purchased on the Holy Cross Ticket Office website or by calling 1-844-GO-CROSS.

Donnelly led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range, adding four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. This marked Donnelly's fifth straight double-figure scoring game.

Flanagan provided early offense for the Crusaders, scoring eight of her 13 points in the first half. She would finish the night 6-of-13 from the floor with three assists, two steals, two blocks and a rebound. Flanagan's most notable basket came in the closing seconds of the first half, when she drained an off-balance jumper from the low post to beat the buzzer and give Holy Cross a six-point lead at the break.

Cahalan rounded out the double-digit scorers for Holy Cross, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-7 shots. She added six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block.

Junior guard Kendall Eddy posted eight points on 3-of-10 shooting and 2-of-5 from deep. The Patriot League all-defensive team recipient collected three steals, and dished out two assists.

The Crusaders were equally strong on the defensive end, finishing with nine steals and seven blocks while forcing 18 turnovers. Holy Cross held Army scoreless over the final 2:10 of the fourth quarter, recording four stops to secure the win.

Army West Point was led in scoring by Camryn Tade who scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the loss. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After two scoreless minutes, Tade opened the night for Army with a reverse layup at the 8:00 mark. Cahalan answered for Holy Cross on the ensuing possession with a floater inside the key.
  • Flanagan got to the basket on back-to-back trips down the floor, giving the Crusaders an 8-4 lead. 
  • Kya Smith found Brooke Wilson on a cut to the basket at the 5:08 mark, trimming Holy Cross' lead to 8-6 heading into the first media timeout.
  • Junior guard Hannah Griffin and Eddy knocked down back-to-back threes, giving the Crusaders a 14-12 lead to close the first quarter.
  • Following a Tade three to open the second quarter, the Crusaders responded with a 7-0 run featuring layups from Flanagan and Donnelly, along with a Cahalan three, to make it 21-15 with 6:34 remaining.
  • The Black Knights tied it up at 21-21 with 3:44 to play in the first half as a result of five-straight points from Tade.
  • Eddy capped a 7-0 with a corner three at the 2:22 mark giving Holy Cross a 28-21 advantage.
  • A three from Reese Ericson and two free throws by Wilson cut the Crusaders' lead to 30-26 with 21 seconds left in the half.
  • Flanagan inbounded to Cahalan with 2.1 seconds remaining, got the ball back on the low block, and connected on an off-balance buzzer-beater to give Holy Cross a 32-26 lead at the break.
  • Army pulled within two with a 7-0 run, knocking down five free throws in a span of 1:10 to make it 37-35.
  • Holy Cross pushed its lead back to seven at the under-five media timeout thanks to a Foreman three and a pair of free throws from junior guard Janie Bachmann, making it 42-37.
  • Bachmann added two more free throws, and Eddy knocked down a jumper from the left elbow with 3:49 remaining to make it 46-37.
  • The Black Knights made it 46-39 on a layup by Reganne Reardon. On the Holy Cross inbound, Ericson forced a steal and made a contested shot under the basket to bring the score to 46-41.
  • Donnelly drilled a corner three in the waning seconds of the quarter, giving Holy Cross a 49-42 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Donnelly knocked down her third three of the game at the 8:28 mark and Cahalan made a layup with 7:21 to play making it 54-45.
  • Smith and Reardon combined for four free throws in 41 seconds, cutting the lead to 54-49 at the under-five media.
  • Flanagan drained a corner three with 4:16 left, pushing Holy Cross' lead to 57-49.
  • Army's Taylor Wilson drained a three, and Smith converted an and-one to pull within 57-55 with 2:10 remaining.
  • Holy Cross held Army scoreless over the final 2:10, recording four stops. After converting four free throws, the Crusaders closed out a 61-55 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Holy Cross advances to its third Patriot League Championship in four years. The Crusaders won back-to-back league championships in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
  • Holy Cross finishes the year 2-1 against Army and improves to 44-36 in the all-time series.
  • Holy Cross improves to 13-3 at the Hart Center this season.
  • Cahalan finished in double figures for the 25th time this season and the 44th time in her career.
  • Donnelly tallied double figures for the 12th time this year and the 22nd time in her career.
  • Flanagan posted double figures for the 11th time this season and the 44th time in her career.
