Men’s ice hockey downs Bentley on the road

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Bentley, 4-1, Saturday night at Bentley Arena.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 13-13-2 (11-7-2 AHA), while Bentley moves to 15-8-5 (13-3-4 AHA) with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Quinn McCall wasted no time getting the Crusaders on the board with his third goal of the season. Receiving a pass from sophomore Matt Kursonis, McCall sent the one-timer into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead just 1:53 into the contest.
  • After a lengthy review, senior Devin Phillips was credited with his second goal of the season. Forcing a turnover at the defensive blue line, Kursonis found Phillips in stride to create the three-on-one opportunity. Phillips skated the puck up the ice before sending a wrist shot past the Falcons' netminder to extend the Crusaders' lead to 2-0.
  • Junior Connor Welsh continued the scoring for Holy Cross, netting his sixth of the season on a quick shot off a feed by junior David Hymovitch to bring the Crusader lead to 3-0.
  • Bentley broke up the shutout 28 seconds into the third period.
  • Sophomore Owain Johnston iced the game with an empty goal with 1:19 left to play in regulation.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Freshman Danick Leroux recorded 29 saves in the contest, including 12 in the final period of play.
  • The Holy Cross penalty kill held Bentley to 0-for-4, including killing off a five minute major with 12 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Away teams are now 8-0-1 in the last nine meetings between the two squads.

UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders are set to travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for a two-game set at Canisius on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14.
  • Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. both nights and will be broadcast live on FloHockey.
