AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore
Hadley Cepiel totaled a career-high four points on three goals and one assist, but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team was defeated by Massachusetts 17-8 at Garber Field. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1, while the Minutewomen begin the year at 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close early on, with the score tied at 3-3 after the first 10 minutes of play.
• UMass then scored four straight goals to pull in front, and eventually led 9-4 at halftime.
• The Minutewomen then opened the second half with a 5-0 run, and went on to win by nine goals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior
Kate Avitabile recorded a team-high three assists on the day.
• Senior
Racheli Levy-Smith totaled 11 draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Senior
Mackenzie Creagh made eight saves.
• UMass was led by Kassidy Morris with five goals and four assists.
UP NEXT:
• Holy Cross will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 10, when it plays host to Albany in its home opener.
