Men's ice hockey falls at home to Bentley

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Bentley, 4-2, Friday night at the Hart Center Rink.

Holy Cross moves to 12-13-2 (10-7-2 AHA) on the season, while Bentley improves to 15-7-5 (13-2-4 AHA).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Neither team was able to score in the first period, with Bentley holding the slight advantage in shots, 10-8.
  • The Falcons got on the board first with a power play goal just under six minutes into the contest, following it up with an even strength strike two minutes later to take the 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Matt Kursonis cut the Bentley advantage in half with 5:32 to play in the middle frame. Receiving a leading pass from sophomore Owain Johnston at the offensive blue line, senior Devin Phillips drew the Bentley defense to him before sending a pass across the ice to an open Kursonis for the one-timer into the back of the net.
  • Bentley opened the third period with a goal to retake the two goal advantage 41 seconds in.
  • Sophomore Noah Eyre brought the Crusaders back within one with just under two minutes to play in regulation with a power play goal, jamming home a rebound off a shot by junior Will Elias.
  • Bentley iced the game with an empty net strike with 21.7 seconds to play.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Freshman Danick Leroux recorded 32 saves in net.
  • Senior Lachlan Getz led both sides with four blocked shots.
  • Junior Jack Stockfish dominated at the faceoff dot, winning a career-high 19 draws, and finishing the night with a .760 win percentage.

UP NEXT:
  • The two teams will face off again tomorrow night, Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Bentley Arena in Waltham, Mass.
  • Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
