BOSTON – The Holy Cross men's basketball team ended its Patriot League road slate on Wednesday evening with a 78-63 loss to Boston University in Case Gymnasium.
Junior guard/forward
Gabe Warren paced the Crusaders (10-20, 5-12 PL) with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal. Sophomore guard
Tyler Boston (10 points) and freshman forward
Aiden Disu (10 points) joined their teammate in double-figures.
The Terriers (14-16, 9-8 PL) were led by Michael McNair and Ben Defty who scored a game-high matching 20 points each.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Great ball movement around the perimeter led to sophomore forward Aidan Richard canning a three-ball on the left wing to put Holy Cross down 6-5. BU went on an 17-4 run to take a 14 point, 23-9 edge with 12:03 left in the half. A pair of junior guard John St. Germain III treys brought the Crusader deficit to 10, 27-17 at the under eight media stoppage.
- Sophomore forward Chuck Hare scored from within close to put his team down nine, 31-22 with 6:14 left in the first half. BU countered putting up seven straight to go ahead 38-22. The Holy Cross defense held the Terriers scoreless over the final 4:11 while they scored 11 straight points as St. Germain III hit a shot as the clock expired to put the Crusaders down 38-33 at the break.
- The Holy Cross run expanded into the second half and it built to 17-4 as they trailed 41-40 following a junior guard DeAndre Williams corner three 2:05 into the second half. A pull-up jumper by the hosts built the advantage back to eight, 52-44. Jumpers off the shot of Boston and Richard brought Holy Cross within four, 58-54 with 8:50 to go.
- From there, BU went on a 13-4 run to take a 71-58 margin with 4:04 remaining. The Crusaders could only muster five points the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- After going 0-for-14 over a seven game stretch (Jan. 17-Feb. 7) from three, Disu is 9-for-16 (56.3 percent) from range over his last five games.
- BU did not attempt a foul shot from the line in the first half, but was 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) in the second half.
- The Crusaders have turned the ball over 12 or fewer times in 20 of the last 22 games.
