WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior
Charlotte Sonntag scored her ninth goal of the season, but the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was defeated by Vermont 2-1 in overtime at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 18-12-3 on the season and 10-11-3 in Hockey East, while the Catamounts improve to 14-16-5 overall and 8-11-4 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Sonntag opened the scoring on a short-handed goal early in the second period, with assists from junior
Emily Crovo and sophomore
Sarah Rowe.
• Holy Cross held the lead until early in the third period, when Ashley Kokavec found the net to tie the game at 1-1.
• Neither team scored again in regulation, before a goal by Kaylee Lewis 3:31 into overtime gave Vermont the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Senior
Abby Hornung made 39 saves on the night.
• Crovo's assist was the 32nd of her Holy Cross career, the most by any Crusader in the Hockey East era.
• Vermont finished the game with a 41-16 advantage in shots on goal.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, when it will play a home game in the quarterfinal round of the Hockey East Tournament.
